Il existe deux versions fort différentes des sonates opus II : la première date de 1721 et la seconde de 1737.
Il convient d’abord de signaler que, mis à part les mouvements de la version de 1721 supprimés ou remplacés par de la musique nouvelle, de nombreux passages ont été totalement réécrits.

Dans la version de 1721, les altérations sont employées selon la tradition française de la fin du XVIIe siècle, dans celle de 1737, leur emploi se rapproche de la tradition italienne contemporaine.
Le progrès le plus remarquable, d’une partition à l’autre, concerne la maîtrise de la mélodie. Les changements mélodiques évitent les marches et les clichés, trop fréquents dans la première version.
Dans la seconde version, les phrasés sont souvent précisés, alors qu’ils sont rares dans la première.
La page 1 de la version de 1737 porte la mention « Touttes ces Sonates peuvent se joüer sur la flûte Traversière ».
